Songs about time could mean the years going by or wanting to go back and fix things. Just like music, time is universal and artists ranging from pop to rock have covered the topic in their songs. It may seem to be a small topic, but every artist manages to create a unique perspective on the subject. All of these songs about time have become both critically and commercially successful because of their universal appeal.
- "If I Could Turn Back Time" by Cher This song about time was written by Diane Warren but was performed by Cher. The song was on the 1989 album "Heart of Stone," which was Cher's first multi-platinum album. The lyrics are about wanting to turn back time in order to take back cruel things she said that ended a relationship. She wants to go back in time to make sure she doesn't hurt him again.
- "Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)" by Green Day Green Day's song about time is the rock band's first attemt at a ballad. Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong wrote the song about his girlfriend leaving to live in another country. The lyrics revolve around how time can point you in the direction your life will head and how unpredictable life can become. Time is also refrenced as having the time of your life. This song about time is off the 1997 album "Nimrod."
- "Time After Time" by Cyndi Lauper This song about time is off Lauper's 1984 album "She's So Unusual." It was the last song written for the album and Lauper thought of the song title "Time After Time" before the song was complete. The song is about a relationship that fadded away over time. Even though they are not in each others lives, she will be there for that person. It went No. 1 on Billoard Hot 100 and was co-written by Lauper and Rob Hyman.

The song was written by all of the Pink Floyd members and is about how time is fleeting. The lyrics revolve around how when you are yonger time seems meaningless, so you waste away moments. There is no warning when you transition from wasting time away to realizing time is not on your side anymore. This song about time is off the 1973 album "Dark Side of the Moon."
- "Landslide" by Fleetwood Mac Stevie Nicks wrote this song about time in five minutes. The chorus of "Landslide" is about how over time things keep changing and Nicks ponders if she can handle the changes in her life. "Landslide" has been covered by a variety of different artists including, the cast of "Glee" and The Dixie Chicks.
