Caribbean stud poker rules are similar to five-card stud poker with the variation of being a progressive jackpot style of poker. As the name implies, Caribbean stud poker originated in the Caribbean and progressively moved into the United States and Europe. The game is played on a black-jack sized table and has a progressive ante. The rules for Caribbean Stud Poker are simple.
- Played with a standard deck of cards, the game starts when the player places their bet or ante.
- The dealer will deal five cards; face down, to each player at the table.
- Five cards are dealt to the dealer with four cards face down and the final card is dealt face up.
- Stay or fold is the option given to the player or first player. If they choose to stay then the amount of the ante is doubled from the previous ante. If they fold, the ante is forfeit.
- Dealers hand is revealed. The dealer must have at least an ace/king combination or the player/players win even money on the ante and their original wager is returned. If the dealer does not have an ace/king combination then their hand is compared with the players. If the player’s hand is higher than the dealers then the player wins even money on the ante and their original bet wins according to the following:
Royal Flush pays 100:1
Straight Flush pays 50:1
Four of a kind pays 20:1
Full house pays 7:1
Flush is 5:1
Straight pays 4:1
Three of a kind pays 3:1
Two pair equals 2:1
A pair is 1:1
Ace/king combination pays 1:1
- Players also have an option of playing for a progressive jackpot. To be considered for the progressive jackpot in Caribbean Stud the player has to make an additional side bet of one dollar at the start of the game. If the player’s hand is at least a flush or better than the player will win the amount designated in the payout table. Other amounts will vary depending on the casino specific rules.
- If you hold a pair or better than bet.
- If you hold an ace/king combination then you should bet.
