Hikayat Merong Mahwangsa the most successful Malaysian film

Touted as the "most successful Malaysian film in terms of global reach," and impressing the critics who have seen previews, "Hikayat Merong Mahawangsa" (or "The Malay Chronicles: Bloodlines"), is set to hit Malaysian screens on Thursday.
Produced by KRU Studios, the film tells the tale of Merong Mahwangsa, a descendent of Alexander the Great who saves a Chinese princess from pirates who have abducted her. The cast features local and international actors, including Stephen Rahman-Hughes, Gavin Stenhouse, Ummi Nazeera, Dato' Rahim Razali and Jing Lusi.
In a release to the media, the producers claim to have spent "US$10 and US$20 million" on costs. Patrick Ewald, the CEO of Epic Pictures (the international distributors for the film), added:  "We are amazed by the production quality of the film. Although distributors had never heard of the myth surrounding Merong Mahawangsa, they were captivated by (the film's) fast paced action sequences."
Malaysian entertainment blogger, J Shamsul  said: "I'm awestruck watching the trailer. At first glance it looked like something that comes from a Hollywood or Hong Kong studio. I've been waiting for something like this to come from the Malaysian film industry..
