Folk Dances in Madhya Pradesh

India is a wonderful land of varied cultures and traditions. Each region of the country can be named by its unique culture which is amply mused in the various art forms of that region. Folk music and dance are inherent parts of the art forms of unlike regions. True, that these folk dances are not as complex as the classical dance forms but they still have a tremendous aesthetic charm and can leave the watchers entranced. These dances are performed with full rigour on nearly every special occasion and festival. They convey a sense of joy. These dances also have religious meaning and many of them are believed to be auspicious with many of them are committed to the presiding deity of the specific community. The attire used during the carrying out of a folk dance is of great grandness. Every folk dance has its own particular dress up.  The jewellery and costumes bestow a great deal of charm to these dances. India colourful and  vibrant, a land as diverse as its people. A mosaic of religions, cultures, customs and languages that blend   harmoniously to form a composite whole. One of the world's oldest feeling cultures - which gave to the Earth - the conception of zero, the primaeval sound Aum…Yoga, and Buddhism.


Today - the India of the 21st century is chipping at a niche for itself as an economic great power. The Maharajas of yore have yielded place to some of the wealthiest tycoons of the world. Our country has achieved remarkable breakthroughs in missile, aeronautical and space technologies. India has become the hub of data technology in south Asia, owing to its vast pool of English-knowing technical manpower! Naach is a Sanskrit word, which was as well used in Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and other languages afterwards.   According to the Hindu believe Naach is one of the various disguises of Hindu God Shiva. Shiva is also deemed as the king of dance. It is also believed that Ganesha used to play mridangam as Shiva danced. According to Hindu faith there were some affairs when Shiva wanted to dance but Ganesha was unavailable to play mridangam, so Shiva himself played Dumroo and danced at the same time. Apart from religious believes, modern anthropologists claim that dance has been a cultural phenomenon. allowing to the gurus of dance; Art, literature and other fine arts develop its features within specific socio-political context and the growth of these forms of arts grow with the intellectual prosperity of society.

Punjab is a land full of resourses. Its rich and fertile soil played a vital role in putting up the mindset of the people of Punjab and because of this richness; Punjabis are more open-minded and receiving. This development also dominates the folk dances of Punjab. Punjab folk dance can be divided in two main categories.
